Aussies add another event with title-winning team

Taylor Gill and co-driver Dan Brkic have expanded their World Rally Championship program, confirming they will add Rally Chile to their itinerary alongside their entry at Rally del Paraguay next week.

Following the recent news of their outing in Paraguay, the addition of Chile extends the Australian pair’s 2026 WRC2 program to five rounds, as they'll now tackle both South American events behind the wheel of a Toksport World Rally Team Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.

Toksport, winners of the WRC2 Championship for Teams last year, will run the Australians across the back-to-back rallies, starting with Paraguay in late August, followed by the fast, flowing gravel roads of Chile in September.

“We believed Finland would be the finish of our WRC year; however, Paraguay was a big bonus. To then be able to add Chile to complete the South American double-header is incredible,” Gill said.

“We’ve stretched our budget a long way already this year, and to pull both of these rounds together is a lot more than we initially thought was possible.”

Gill’s Finnish-based manager, Jukka Hara, has been working behind the scenes in a bid to open more doors for the Australian, which, on this occasion, has come to fruition.

Hara has been heavily involved with the development and management of Rally Estonia and Rally Finland winner Sami Pajari, and has been working with Gill since 2023.

Through his contacts, the Škoda opportunity with Toksport – one of the benchmark teams in WRC2 – was secured across both events.

Despite the news, it certainly doesn’t mean an ‘arrive and drive’ package for Gill, who still needs to bring partial funding to complete the stint.

“Nothing is free at this level of the sport, but it’s something we needed to do to get ourselves closer to our goals.

“We’re still yet to fit the final pieces together, but we have to take every opportunity that presents itself and work harder than ever to get things off the ground.”

The chance to contest two consecutive rallies in a new manufacturer’s Rally2 car is an exciting prospect for the 22-year-old, after driving Toyota and Citroën machinery earlier in 2026.

“I’m excited to drive the Škoda and to learn the differences between it and the two Rally2 cars I’ve already been able to drive,” Gill added.

“We will have some time in the Škoda before Paraguay, which will be important to help us get acquainted with the car and to understand how the team operates.

“Toksport has proven their world-class level time and time again over many years. When you look at the championships it has won, the pedigree speaks for itself.

“Stepping into an environment with so much professionalism is a massive opportunity for Dan and I, and we’re looking forward to working closely with the team.”

While the South American gravel roads are sometimes compared to Australia’s, Gill is keeping a measured approach ahead of both events.

“Out of all the events I thought I was a chance of doing this year, Paraguay and Chile wouldn’t have been in the top 50,” Gill added.

“People may think South America is like Australia, but there are similarities that often get thrown around too easily, so I’ll need to keep an open mind for both events.

“All the WRC rallies are unique and present a different challenge, so we’ll do our best to prepare as we normally would, and get a result for our supporters and sponsors.

“We know that chances to drive can open up at short notice, as it did here, so we need to be ready to move at any moment.”

Rally del Paraguay takes place from August 27-30, followed by Rally Chile from September 10-13.
