Gill concludes Italian tarmac campaign early

Taylor Gill and Dan Brkic have concluded their Italian Challenger Championship campaign, bringing their time in the Citroën C3 Rally2 to a close after two rounds of the scheduled five-event program.

The pair embarked on the tarmac series earlier this season to gain more experience on sealed surfaces, and across their two outings in Italy, they showed a clear upward trajectory, steadily improving their times as they acclimatised to the new car and the demanding mountain roads.

However, despite some positive steps forward at the recent Rally della Marca, the Australian pair have opted to step away from the program.

The difficult decision was made to end the program with the Italian Turbocar team after the Rally della Marca.

“It is obviously a big shame to be cutting this Italian program short,” Gill said.

“Across the two rallies, our stage times were improving, and we were learning more about the Citroën on these twisty roads.

“As things have developed recently in our WRC journey, it’s become clear we need to refocus our resources, and the most logical decision from our side was to step away from this partnership.”

“I want to thank the team and their supporters for their hard work and hospitality over the past couple of months as we’ve competed on these two picturesque events together.

“I’m grateful for the tarmac mileage we've gained, and we will take those lessons forward with us when we next step onto a sealed surface rally.”
