Sunday speed the highlight, as Gill gets fourth

Taylor Gill and Daniel Brkic have continued their impressive form in WRC2, securing yet another fourth place finish at Rally Chile.

Having taken home a career-best WRC finish in Paraguay just a fortnight ago, the Australians lifted their speed in what was only their second outing in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.

Gill’s performance in Chile is by far his best of the season, with genuine speed and consistency seeing him on the podium in the first half of the rally, only to have a tyre delamination drop him to fourth, a deficit which was too great to overcome.

“The South American tour could barely have gone better,” Gill explained post-rally.

“Obviously in Paraguay we kept our nose clean to get to fourth, but in Chile, it was earned on pure pace and consistency.”

That speed was shown across the entire rally, with Friday’s top three times developing to fastest split times on Saturday, before closing in on stage wins on Sunday.

Through four stages on the rally’s final leg, Gill and Brkic were just 0.7 seconds from the fastest Rally2 car.

“We had our plans set for the rally, and they went almost perfectly to plan,” Gill added.

“Gain some confidence Friday, build the speed on Saturday, and continue the push on Sunday was the goal, and to have it come true like that, Dan and I are really proud.

“Over the course of the season, and especially these two rallies, we’ve drastically narrowed the per-kilometre time gap between us and the guys winning the rallies, and I feel there is still pace to come, so that is a real positive.”

Another positive for Gill is that he’s completed all five of his 2026 events without putting a mark on the car, a feat that few drivers can claim. Further, this extends his streak to 15 WRC rallies without missing a mile, totally maximising the learning opportunities available.

“I’m proud of our finishing record especially. Of course nobody ever means to crash, but to be able to fight the way we have across this year, as well as the FIA Rally Star program before that, and finish every stage in the process has helped a lot with my development.”

The event rounds out Gill’s 2026 WRC2 campaign, which grew from an initial three-event program to five, after getting the seat in the Toksport Škoda setup for the South American double header.

Gill concludes his season with no concrete plans for 2027, besides an increased desire to remain fighting against the world’s best.

Similar to 2026, his season will be entirely budget-dependent, with lots of work to do between now and the beginning of next year to secure more rallies in the World Rally Championship.
